Strong City

It seems as though every motorcycle enthusiast has been waiting patiently for the short days, long nights and cold weather to disappear so we could get out on our two wheels. Finally today was that day! The sky, the road and the landscape never grow old to me, even if it is someplace we have ridden to previously. Today, we decided to ride to Potwin for biker breakfast. Sharon’s breakfast burrito and biscuits and sausage gravy were our choices. Sharon owns the little corner restaurant in Peabody, if you have not been – GO! On the second Sunday of each month, Sharon takes her food trailer to Potwin and cooks up some scrumptious food. I am very particular when it comes to cream gravy, I am from Oklahoma and cream gravy is a condiment. Sharon makes some good cream gravy. She also makes homemade salsa and today it was extra spicy. YIKES! From Potwin through Cassody, Cottonwood Falls and into Strong City we decided to stop for lunch at Longhorn Lounge and CafĂ©. We were hoping that since we were in the very heart of the Flint Hills with all of the farms and ranches we would enjoy Kansas beef. So wrong, so sad, so disappointed! We ordered Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and salad. The piece of steak was a frozen patty, deep fried and as thin as a penny; the mashed potatoes were lumpy with skins and the cream gravy was an instant mix! Sinful for cream gravy to be instant – I know my gravy. The disappointing lunch didn’t stop us from exploring the town of Strong City and the amazing train depot. I find it hard to believe with all of the preservation of the Flint Hills that Strong City is not doing something to restore this beautiful train depot. I love trains and finding this depot and climbing all over the caboose was big fun. It’s the little things for me. I see a train ride across the United States in my future. I certainly hope you enjoy these few photos, feels like I am a bit out of practice, riding and trying to take pictures, not many actually turned out. I will always have the beauty in my memory. May your week be filled with adventure and I hope you laugh and go into “silent mode”; it’s the best kind. Peace! Pam
